St. Leodegar im Hof or Hofkirche St. Leodegar Lucerne Reviews
Lucerne's main Cathedral Apr 07, 2004
This church is also known as the Hof Church and you cannot miss it if you are on your way to visit the Lion Monument. The church can be identified by its twin towers.
It is an important landmark in the history of Lucerne and one of the oldest churches. It was built in parts from 1633 to 1639 on the foundation of the Roman basilica which had burnt in 1633.
The building is beautiful but what is more impressive is the exquisite hand carved door! The carvings the patron saints of Lucerne, St. Leger and St. Maurice.
The church is well known for its organ and one of the largest in Switzerland. It has 5945 pipes! What is even more amazing is the fact that the organ can reproduce the sounds of rain, hail and thunder! Quite impressive! The organ has been restored but portions of it date back to 1678.
The inside of the church is really beautiful with rich wooden furnishings and great altars. The roof of the church is to be admired.
If you don't feel like visiting the inside of the church, take a seat at the bottom of the stairs, relax and enjoy the atmosphere.
Part of the list Beautiful Churches that I have visited.
