Nice enough church for a brief visit! Dec 03, 2013
Thanks to my fellow TB user Nancy (nana_gifin) for giving me information about this Church.

St. John Baptist Church took over 200 years to build and is the home of the Mamacha Candelaria (De la Candelaria Virgin), patrons of Puno. It's located smack dub in the city centre, less than half a mile away from the city's main cathedral and is easily navigable.

When I went, there was a school that was attending afternoon mass with the teachers disciplining the students. So it was rather fun to see grapes and bread instead of wine and bread as the offering to the Lord!

The church, like many in Peru is very colourful and has some great work. Having said that, if you're not aware of the history (I wasn't until Nana told me), it's perfectly ok giving it a miss.
I loved the exterior!
