Nice place! Nov 11, 2011
Built in the sixteenth century, this church is in the heart of Madrid and is closely connected with Spanish royalty. A palace used to stand next to the church (or the church stood next to the palace!) and in the sixteenth century, Phillip II ensured that his bedroom was situated in such a way that he could here mass more easily. These days, the church is very near the famous art museum, Prado, and serves as a great little trip after you have seen the museum. Although the interior is fairly hollow, I was rather impressed with the well-preserved nature of the place. Frescoes that are hundreds of years old still hang in places, and the fresh flowers were a surprising feature. A lovely little church and worth a quick visit.
