Only for a short stay to catch a plane Jun 08, 2015
The St. Giles is located fairly close to the airport which makes this hotel convenient for travelers. In fact, airline personnel checked in as we were in the lobby. The place is adequate for a short stay especially if you need to stay nearby to get to the airport. The room is on the small side but the bathroom was a good enough size. There is a small restaurant on the premises in case you need it. Hotel staff is pleasant and assist you in calling a cab when one is needed. You are probably better off staying at a name hotel if you are remaining in the area for several days.

Comfortable airport stop-over Aug 17, 2011
This hotel is approximately 1.8 miles away from Heathrow, which was approximately a 10 min drive by taxi, you can book your transfer to the airport through the hotel. The room was very clean and the bed was very comfortable and pretty reasonable at £40 per night including full english buffet breakfast.

Interesting short review. If I remember correctly I once stayed in this hotel on business.

Not much content because I literally arrived after midnight, slept and then left first thing in the morning, so no use of facilities etc...

St Giles Hotel Jan 17, 2011
St Giles hotel is just off the Tottenham Court Road. This is a very good location for shopping, and a reasonably good location for she West End. It’s not, however, a great location for sleeping. I was there on business, and so I didn’t pay for the room myself.

Tottenham Court Road is busy and noisy, but very central. The hotel itself is in a cluster of 1960s towers, just off the main road. Rooms are about average sized for London (so tiny, if any Americans are reading this!). The décor is

OK, if a little run down, and there are lots of rooms over many floors. The staff are friendly and the check in queues move fast, which is more than I can say for the Strand Palace. The only major criticism of the hotel is that it’s

soundproofing is poor. You will be able to listen to every word in the room next door, and wake to a serenade of traffic and sirens. The pillows are also the lumpiest pillows I have ever come across. If I hadn’t been so tired I would have got back up and rolled up my coat instead. And the soundproofing is a real issue in a hotel that seems to be totally incapable of oiling any of its doors. Some of the creaking noises last several seconds, which doesn't sound that long until the fifth time that hour.

The bathrooms are tiny, and the one in my room had a shower but no bath. I don’t think this is much of a problem, as I was travelling for business and would only have showered at home, but it might bother leisure travellers. The

hairdryer is really only useful for warming your hair up a little. There are some toiletries provided. Breakfast is hot and fresh, if a little school canteen like.

The website boasts “access to a gym and pool for a nominal fee.” What they mean is, for £5 (correct at time of writing) you can use the YMCA downstairs. As it’s a members club, that’s not actually too bad a deal; I don’t think they do day passes for people not staying in the hotel. It’s a proper full size swimming pool, rather than the puddle you get in some hotels, with a decent steam room and sauna and proper gym equipment. It’s also spotlessly clean and wasn’t too busy when I went. But I’m not convinced that I would be that happy about going there because I thought there was a pool and finding out it was £5, if I had chosen the hotel.

As it is, this hotel is OK. The pool is an attraction, even for five pounds, if you are travelling alone and likely to be bored in the evenings, and it is central to a lot of the places I want to be when I’m in town. But the pillows and soundproofing are terrible and my neck was stiff the next day. It sucks going to work when you can't have had more than four hours sleep.

I will probably stay there again – work books hotels separately and I don’t get a lot of say in where I end up staying. But if it was my money, I would probably only stay there if there was a discount on the internet.

Consider taking your own pillow…
