Another example of great architecture Aug 21, 2010
We had the great fortune of attending a traditional Maltese wedding at the Basilica. And what a great venue for a wedding.

The Basilica dominates the tiny square of St George that it is situated on. The sheer size of the door to the Basilica should give you an idea of the grandeur that awaits you once inside. It is known locally as the marble basilica as the inside is covered entirely in marble. The alter too has a splendid creation of a bronze and gold gilded canopy. However, the main attraction inside the basilica is a statue of St George sculptured out of wood. Beautiful paintings also adorn the walls and the dome of this fine building, together with little ornate silver lamps.

Definitely worth seeing when visiting the island of Gozo.
