St. David's Hotel and Spa Cardiff Reviews
St David's Hotel - wow. May 16, 2010
St David’s Hotel is on Cardiff Bay, a short bus ride out of the city centre. It is the big white building on the opposite side of Mermaid Quay from the Millennium Centre.
I stayed here for one night, and am impressed to the borders of gob smacked – there is no way I could have afforded a hotel like this in London. Every room has a balcony with views out over the harbour, and in my case, a family of swans in a patch of nature reserve. The entire rear wall of the hotel, and its main atrium roof, is made of glass – the whole feeling is very light and airy. Of course, the nice weather meant that the balcony was useful, and it might feel different in a storm, but I doubt it.
The room comes with use of the spa pools and a discount on treatments. The pool is large enough to swim lengths, which is not universal in hotels, and also has lovely views of the bay. There is a hot spa pool and a salt water part of the pool with water jets, and a sauna, and the pool is spotlessly clean. They will lend you free towels and bath robes too, which is very nice and saves you from revealing that you are travelling with a microfiber pack towel in the classy spa.
The staff are very friendly and incredibly polite. I don’t normally stay in the sorts of places that carry your bags to the taxi for you, and a girl could get used to it!
Breakfast was very nice. I decided that I couldn’t afford the restaurant, but it is only a five minute or so walk into Mermaid Quay, where there are dozens of chain restaurants for far less money.
