Ssezibwa Falls Mukono Reviews
Scenic and Cultural Waterfall in Uganda Jun 05, 2013
Ssezibwa Falls in Mukono district is one of the cultural and scenic attractions in Uganda. run in part by the Church of Uganda, it is one of those day trips; about 33 kilometers from Kampala. My family and I, stopped at the falls on our way back from Jinja where we saw the Source of the Nile. It is a cultural site for many locals who travel there for prayers. It is the perfect getaway from the noisy, traffic jammed city of Kampala.
In local tradition; the story of the two rivers that spring from Ssezibwa falls has it that Nakangu; the woman who was to give birth to twins, gave birth to two rivers instead. The locals still believe that the spirits of Nakangu's unborn twins inhabit the waters of the falls/ twin rivers.
The falls drops down with such force it creates a white water backdrop. The grounds around the falls make for a great picnic ground. Cottages are being put up to provide accommodation in the near future.
Combine a visit to Ssezibwa falls with a visit to the Source of the Nile in Jinja.
