Ssanggyesa Pensioen Hadong Reviews
New quality guesthouse with caring owners Oct 12, 2014
N35°13.778' E127°38.676' For visiting the Ssanggyesa temple and hiking the Buril Falls trail we needed somewhere to stay overnight. From the Rough Guide first on our list was Joh-eun Sesang, the last place before the gate to the park. By the Hangul name, we found a restaurant on this spot. We asked for a minbak but they declined: full. Strangely, restaurant did not appear to have space for rooms anywhere. The second choice on our list was Gibson minbak from Lonely Planet. It is near the junction where the roads from the two bridges come together, next to Palmotong restaurant. We called the owner but he told us to call back in an hour. Therefore, we started our own list addition.
On the last road off to the right before the park gate with Joh-eun Sesang restaurant on the corner, you will see in the distance a new white building. It's about 50 meters walk. The owners cannot speak any English, but we settled for KRW 50,000 on weekday and KRW 70.000 on weekend day in August 2014. This new minbak is from 2011 and offers five modern rooms with private bathroom, kitchenette, air-conditioning, balcony, television and parking space. Our room on the top floor was clean and had a nice double bed. Our smartphones could not find Wi-Fi in the guesthouse, but the owners made clear it was working well.
The owners offer great hospitality. Without considering payment, they did our laundry and we were offered delicious fruit from the countryside. The daughter of the proprietor lives in Dubai with her two grandchildren, so without understanding her words we enjoyed the wedding photographs.
For the next revised editions of the Lonely Planet and Rough Guide, this modern quality guesthouse with caring owners should be included. Recommended.
