Srodziemie (Middle Earth - but no hobbits) Oct 10, 2008
Srodziemie, I'm told translates as Middle Earth. Can anyone confirm this? If you haven't guessed already, the theme of this pub is Middle Earth. The barman, as with all poles, (except the skin-heads) was very welcoming and friendly. If Middle Earth really existed, and if there was a pub in Middle Earth, this would be it. All that was missing was a couple of hobbits and a few wizards. With most themed places, they tend to be a bit tacky and go over the top, smacking you in the face with the theme but this pub is quite subtle.
We stumbled into this underground den after downing several pints in CK Browar. My friends expressed their wish to try some Polish vodka. So, the barman kindly provided us with shots of Krupnik (honey), cherry vodka, herbal vodka, absinthe (Polish) and chilli vodka amongst a few.
A word of advice, don't ask the barman to recommend any shots. He gave us a Mad Dog, which is raspberry syrup, vodka and tabasco, only ours were toppped with Spiritus Lubelski (95%ABV). As well as the fine selection of vodka, they also have several bourbons and whiskies.
This is another place frequented by students, I think these places are by far the best in Krakow.
