Sri Mariamman Temple Reviews
Oldest Hindu temple in Singapore Sep 17, 2010
The Sri Mariamman Temple is the oldest Hindu temple in Singapore. It can be easily reached by taking the MRT to Chinatown and simply walking Pagoda Street towards South Bridge Road.
You will easily spot it by having a look for its tower (gopuram), decorated with lots of ornaments.
The entrance to the temple is free, you just have to put off your shoes and the Hindu that work in the temple want to get some money if you want to take pictures of the various sculptures.
The temple itself is very fascinating: the entrance tower is decorated with lots of Hindu deities and other figures and the ceiling is decorated with some frescoes.
I really liked the figures and their colours.
This temple is definetly worth visiting when you are going to Chinatown. Be sure to also check out Budda Tooth Relic Temple which is just a few steps away from this temple.
