Spooks

Spooks is a foreign owned and managed bar. The only bar I actually felt comfortable in. Cagayan De Oro has many native style bars and only Spooks would pass a basic hygiene test!! From what I could see of the other so called night life places, the idea of toilet seats, flushing mechanisms, tissues and soaps is an unnecessary expense!! Spooks is clean, neat and tidy, fully carpeted. The other problem I have with too many bars in the Philippines is the amount of hustle and hassle you get to buy drinks and then get over priced for what you order. Spooks is just so much the opposite, it was almost like being in a typical western bar with a civilized approach to customer care and service.

The beers were cold and no need for ice, the food was amazing. I usually get travels bugs from eating local food. No problem at Spooks, the food was fresh and well prepared. Indeed the food was more International in taste than native style, thankfully!.

Pricing was excellent, actually cheaper than the native bars due to a very transparent pricing policy. I was assured that I would only pay for what I ordered and that there would be no 'extras', they kept their word.

Hotels are good value and local, best for my budget was Natures Pension at less than 15$ a night for a clean neat room with private Cr and aircon. Night Cafe every Friday and Saturday is a great open air experience and topped off with what became a regular visit to Spooks for eating and drinking.
