Manito Gardens in southern Spokane was our next stop.  This is a super large city park and is divided up into several sections.  Japanese Gardens, Rose Gardens, etc.  You can drive around many of the areas and then stroll through the individual gardens.  It was quite a nice experience.

So after breakfast (luggage in tow) we went down to check out of the hotel, and they were kind enough to let us stay in the pool until we had to drive to the airport. It was quite a relaxing afternoon. Left Portland, Oregon on the Empire Builder right on time (4:45pm), only to be delayed for 20 minutes because of a cargo ship that caused the draw bridge to go up. I didn't mind, it was nice to watch the ship sail down the river. After you cross the river, you are in Washington State.I only had a coach ticket and when the conductor came by to collect it, I inquired as to the availability of a sleeper car.
