Winter season in Split. It is time to make up town. Riva is under great reconstruction. Everything is changing. The prime purpose is to relay the asphalt properly. Of course there will be new landscaping involved and a new surface. Reconstruction was completed in May 2007. Inside of Diocletian Palace, craftsmen change old water pipes. Visiting the old town in Split We woke up next morning by a soft knock on the door at 9am, outside the friendly girl from yesterday was happy to inform us that we didn't have to pack since we could stay an additional day. After finishing uni, I decided I needed to do something before I had to start working loads so my boyfriend and I booked a trip around eastern europe, starting in Croatia, and travelling through Bosnia, Hungary, Slovakia and finished in Czech Republic

I really enjoyed my day at Split even if we were mostly woundering around. Our first goal was shopping but that did not work out so well as stores were closed pretty early for a Saturday (around 2 pm)! So you shoppers beware.. get there early as from what I have seen there is some nice shopping to do. Get your Kuna's ready!! My day at Split was my last full day in Croatia before heading back in Switzerland and we ended up on tinny streets where the walls of each buildings...

So!!! Things are much better. Much much better. After staying in some old woman's bedroom on my first night here, I went to Split Hostel. My haven! This place is awesome. The girls who run it are from Australia and are just the nicest people. Last night, I dormed with an Aussie girl who was here to meet her friend, two Aussie boys who have been backpacking around the world since last September, and two guys from Rio Brazil. I spent 8 months in Bosnia on a research fellowship for graduate school. It was a great experience and I got to travel around the region quite a bit. I'd highly recommend the Balkans if you are looking for adventure, hospitality, great food. It is also gentle on your wallet. Enjoy the photos.

As soon as we walked off the ferry in Split, a woman came up and asked if we needed accomodation. Her english was good, and it was 100 kunas (about $20) each per night, so we went with her. The apartment was in a good location, very close to the ferry, but was basically a dump. It smelled badly of mold, had a scary bathroom (no sink, so we had to spit our toothpaste in the shower), and was really dirty. Last night was our last night on the boat. We had to be off the boat by 9am and after a late night, it was really rough getting out of bed. I lost my mind & couldn't be happier! Plan was 6 days-17 countries; ended up 15 countries. Auto trek began in Pula, Croatia Sat. Sept 22, just after Ireland TravBuddy Get-Together. 1st day: Croatia, Italy, Slovenia (overnight in Ljubljana) 2nd: Austria, Hungary, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Poland (overnight in Krakow) 3rd: Ukraine, Romania (overnight in Transylvania) 4th: Bulgaria, Macedonia (overnight in Skopje) 5th: Serbia, Albania, Montenegro, Croatia (overnight in Split) 6th: Back to Pula
