The most magical journey Mar 17, 2009

Day 01: Manali/ Kunzam Pass/Chander Tal Lake/Kaza (202 Kms)

Travel by surface from Manali to Kaza over Rohtang Pass (3980 m) & Kunzum Pass (4558 m) and also viewing Barashigri Glacier. Enroute visiting Chander Tal Lake, villages of Spiti valley like Losar, Hal and Ragrik. On arrival in Kaza check in at guest house. Overnight at guest house.

Day 02: In Kaza

Morning visit the Ki monastery, 12 kms from Kaza. This centuries – old gompa is a labyrinth of rooms and corridors – and at one time also acted as a fort. It houses valuable thangkas and offers a panoramic view of the area. Also visit the small gompa at Kibber, 9 kms further ahead. Kibber at 4205 m has the distinction of being the highest permanently inhabited village of the region. Overnight at guest house.

Day 03: In Kaza

An excursion visiting Langza, Hikim & Comic villages. Overnight at hotel.

Day 04: Kaza / Pin Valley / Tabo

Travel from Kaza to Pin Valley, the land of Ibex and Snow Leopards. Visit Kungri monastery at Pin Valley. Continue drive to Tabo. Visit Tabo monastery. Founded in 996 AD by the great teacher Richensang-po, Tabo is renowned for its breathtaking murals and stucco images – and is often called “The Ajanta of the Himalayas”. The largest monastic complex in Spiti, the old section has 9 temples, 23 chortens, a monk’s chamber and a nun’s chamber. There are several caves adorned with frescoes and contemporary structures too. In trans Himalayan Buddhism, Tabo’s sanctity is next only to Tibet’s Tholing gompa. Overnight at guest house.

Day 05: Tabo/Nako/Kalpa (167 kms/8 hrs)

Travel by surface from Tabo to Kalpa enroute visiting Hoorling, Sumdo and Nako village beautifully located on banks of a small lake and . On arrival in check in hotel. Overnight at hotel

Day 06: Kalpa/ Chitkul/ Sangla (103 kms/ full day)

Travel by surface from Kalpa to Sangla enroute visiting Kamru Fort & village. Continue further to visit the remote village of Chitkul an dlater return back to Sangla for overnight stay.

Day 07: Sangla/ Sarahan (92 kms/ 4 hrs)

Travel from Sangla to Sarahan by jeep. On arrival check in at hotel. Afternoon visit the famous Bhimakali temple, regarded as one of the Shaktipeeths. Overnight at hotel.

Day 08: Sarahan/ Shimla (184 kms/ 6 hrs)

Travel from Sarahan to Shimla enroute visiting Rampur and the hill resorts of Narkanda & Kufri. Tours ends with arrival in Shimla

Take nice SUV (Scorpio/TATA Safari/Toyota Qualies - seat Max 4 people per SUV as these are less travelled destinations and roads could not be in great conditions)
