Spineback Ridge Trail
Spineback Ridge Trail Fernie Reviews
90 minutes gets you amazing views Aug 17, 2011
My aim was to get high.... In altitude that is. However, as the group consisted of myself, my two best friends and their 4 month old son, options were limited.
After studying the brochures in the condo and doing a bit of wiki research we decided on trying to do Spineback Ridge. It was a 'moderate' hike with an elevation of about 500m and a total hike time of 3 - 4 hours.
The hike (and it is a hike) takes you through Alpine forests where every so often you are treated to a sneak peak at the fantastic view that awaits you. After an hour we had reach parts of the mountain that still had the winters residual snow nestling on it and half an hour further on we were at the view point - the end of our climb. There is about another 0.5km of the trail left, but after chatting to some decending hikers we decided not to bother.
My two friends live in BC and hike a fair bit and even they were impressed with it...
"I'm not sure you could get a better hike in such a short time scale - and with these views..." was their opinion.
Definitely worth the aching calf muscles the day after!
