Spicy Oasis Cottages Maleny Reviews
Beautiful Hinterland Cottage Retreat Aug 16, 2009
Spicy Oasis Cottages in Maleny is relatively new, having been open just over 4 months. According to owner Irena, who is an amusing, friendly and charming character, everything was built from the ground up by her and her husband John - these two certainly are a talented team and their dedication shines through their impeccable service and friendly 'make yourself at home' attitude.
The retreat consists of just 3 cottages on a fairly large area of land in maleny, situated in a tranquil and scenic spot by the lake, where ducks can be seen swimming lazily past the birds that have popped down for a drink. Farmland and happy cows can be seen to the right, trees to the left, and the owner's residence just over the lake should you require anything during your stay.
There are two 1 bedroom cottages available and one 2 bedroom cottage. We stayed in a one bedder which was extremely cosy and homely, with a roaring fireplace and two person spa bath. Decorated tastefully in shades of blue, the cottage isn't huge, but anyone looking for 5 star luxury and masses of space probably isn't looking for the kind of cosy winter getaway that spicy oasis provides. The rooms feel less like a hotel and more like someone's little home. The kitchette contains a small stove top, kettle, toaster and basic utensils. The tea and coffee was fully stocked with a generous variety of options, but a tiny word of warning - if you like your tea with milk, best bring some along as none was provided. The lack of milk wasn't much of an issue for us as we drank the latte sachets provided (powdered milky coffee).
For those travelling to the retreat in darkness (say, after work like we did), take a very good map and a torch as some of the smaller street signs can be hard to see out there at night.
As the retreat is still relatively new, no signage is erected yet and the entrance is marked only by a stick featuring the numbers '694' - easy to miss so be on the lookout! Basic directions are on the website (http://www.spicyoasis.com.au), but it is worth checking over a map before embarking on the drive.
This place is simply beautiful, and i must say i was torn between proudly praising it up in this review and selfishly keeping it very quiet for myself! As the retreat is still fairly new, i've opted to share my love for the place in the hope that others will enjoy it as much as we did.
You can really feel the love and effort that has gone into everything at Spicy Oasis, from the carefully hand-tiled bathroom art to the complimentary freshly baked danish biscuits upon arrival (which were truly delicious and didn't last long!)
Do yourself a favour and spend a lazy weekend relaxing out here, in absolute peace, out on the porch with a nice glass of red and some good quality cheese, to the tune of a few happy kookaburras! Pure bliss!
