Spaceship Earth Walt Disney World Reviews
A journey through time aboard Spaceship Earth Mar 22, 2011
Spaceship Earth is the geodesic sphere that is the iconic image of the Epcot theme park at Walt Disney World. But, the sphere also houses a ride. The ride takes one on a journey through the history of human communciation. As ride vehicles climb inside the sphere, audio-anamatronic figures show prehistoric cave art, development of langauge and writing, Greek and Arabic mathematics, Roman roads, Medieval monk copyists, and Gutenburg and printing. The modern era begins with mechanized printing, then the telegraph, telephone, radio, television, and computers. (Like the original concept of Epcot, it's meant to be both fun and educational.) Finally, guests reach the top of the sphere and a starfield across inside of the dome, representing the limitless possibilities space and communciation in the future.
The ride is now in its fourth revision, as the future keeps catching up with it! The descent now has an interactive portion that lets riders map out their own future. Susan and I wanted to know about our future travels, and so Spaceship Earth kindly supplied a preview. You can see the result as you exit the ride. (You can email the video to yourself.)
Spaceship Earth is a good ride to go on as you are leaving Epcot. It will let you cool off from your walk around World Showcase!
Included with park admission.
