Souvenir Shopping at Hilo Borders and Walmart Reviews

If you want it, Get IT!! Apr 09, 2008
Outside of Honolulu Walmart, Kmart, and Borders are the best places to get the tourist stuff. These Big Box stores beat prices and have more stock to chose from.
Have no shame in going to these places.

Borders and Wal-mart are located in the same area of Hilo, near the mall and other shops. Some of you are probably shaking your heads and wondering why I would recommend this place as a stop-point to pick up cool travel souvenirs, but in all honesty, I am from Hawaii and happen to know that they have a lot of souvenirs which may interest you. For example, the Hilo Walmart has an entire section devoted to tourism and souvenirs, where they have the same items you would find elsewhere, but for much, much MUCH cheaper. This includes all of the macadamia nuts and chocolates, as well as certain brands of Kona coffee, shell necklaces, mugs, postcards, books about Hawaii, keychains, magents, etc.

If you are a tourist and happen to be in Hilo, and want to buy unique souvenirs or want to learn more about Hawaiian culture, this Borders has a "Hawaiiana" section where they have everything from literature and poetry by local authors, to travel guides, to history and archaeology books about Hawaii, to the Bible in pidgin. Yes, they actually have bibles written in pidgin from beginning to end. They also have other little things, like aloha print mugs, greeting cards with Hawaian motifs, stuffed animals of Hawaiian animals... all kinds of miscellaneous stuff. So, if you are in Hilo, I definitely recommend stopping by Borders, Walmart, Hilo Hatties... and...one of my favorite health food stores of all time- Island Naturals!
