Southington Overview

Southington is a charming little town in central Connecticut, with rolling hills and a quaint town green. It is home to Mount Southington Ski Area, a very small mountain with six slopes. In October, the sleepy New England hamlet, hosts its annual Apple Harvest Festival. Drawing visitors from all over the area, the event is the primary, if not only, reason for outsiders to visit the otherwise uneventful town.

In 2005, the population was just over 42,000. With only one public high school, the tax dollars spend on education are concentrated on the single institution and as a result, the building is enormous and well equipped. The athletic departments are also able to draw from the massive student body to select the most talented students, so the sports teams tend to do rather well and garner much community support.

Downtown Southington is a great place to go out dine. There are many restaurants within walking distance. It is also a good place to go for some nightlife. My favorite place is "Sam the Clams'. Exit 3 off of 671. It is a popular spot for motorcycles on a sunny weekend. They have a great outdoor deck with a little tiki bar. If you are into fried food and seafood, they say the seafood nachos are the best!
