Key West: Southernmost Point Feb 12, 2010
Traveling down from Ft. Lauderdale, through The Everglades, and down into The Keys was exciting and we made many pitstops. The best part was when we arrived to Key West, I found Plumeria trees (my favorite--I now grow some in the MidWest indoors under growlights, and guess what? THEY ARE IN BLOOM!!!) Key West was beautiful and the water is very pretty, however if I had to compare it to Hawaii, Hawaii would win. In fact, I found myself comparing the two frequently. The atmosphere is different. Key West feels a little more townsy, cute but busy but definitely very USA. By comparison, Hawaiian islands generally feel more like you're far away, and, well, you actually ARE too. You'd have to try both to see what I mean.

Southern most point in the nation Apr 30, 2008
Key West, Florida is the southern most point in the United States and in 1983 they built a now famous buoy style monument. It has become one of the biggest attractions on the island and is at the corner of South and Whitehead Streets that claims to be the southernmost point in the contiguous 48 states. The point was originally just marked with a sign, which was often stolen. Brightly painted and labeled "SOUTHERNMOST POINT CONTINENTAL U.S.A.", it is one of the most visited and photographed attractions in Key West.

Are you sure about this being the southernmost point in the US? I was in Hawaii for the holidays and visited a place called South Point or Ka Lae, which claims to be the southernmost point in the US!
