Southern Eleven Manchester Reviews
Southern Eleven Jun 13, 2012
Southern Eleven is an American Restaurant near Spinningfields in Manchester. It serves things like burgers and barbecue pork and cornbread. The prices are perfectly reasonable (at around about £9 a main, unless you’re having steak, with drinks being bang on average for Manchester). The food is nice, and good value for the price – portions aren’t huge (especially not if you have ever eaten the equivalent food in America), but they are tasty and beautifully presented. The décor is perfectly reasonable too – uninspired, but pleasant and there is enough space to move between the tables, comfy booths if you’re with some friends, and a little bar. I was actually moderately impressed with the service.
It isn’t totally authentic, but then cuisine from the southern USA is unbelievable rare in the UK, and this might be the first place I’ve seen outside London even attempt it. I think it was very pleasant, and for less than £15 a person for one course and one drink, very reasonable. The other thing to note is its competition. Spinningfields is an increasingly overpriced and pretentious part of Manchester, studded with expensive chain restaurants and pop up bars. Southern Eleven, on the other hand, with its nice waiting staff and decent burgers, is great. I may well be back at some point!
