you won't be bored ....ever again =) May 21, 2011
Brisbane is my hometown so perhaps i am a little bit biased.

But the absolute best place inside brisbane city is the southbank parklands.

There is always something to do there! You can take a swim in the man made streets beach, attend a free fitness class, spend some time shopping in the markets, catch a city cat over the river, check out some street performers, have a delicious lunch in a restraunt or even see a movie in the nearby cinema's (which are really cheap for students)

There are loads of events each year as well so it pays to check out whats coming up or whats on.

Over school holidays there is an open air cinema.

There is also firework celebrations for new years eve and at riverfire (a festival that celebrates the river).

You can also check out the museums which are just across the street and are free.

The Southbank Parklands in Brisbane are a great place to spend a morning, afternoon, or a whole day!

Friday to Sunday there are plenty of markets to stroll around. There's a bunch of great restaurants, cafe's and specialty stores. The last Sunday of each month (I think) is the Young Designers Market where they have A LOT more markets held by young clothing a jewelry designers which is very popular.

If you're not looking to spend money you can laze around the man-made beach, have a swim, or take in the excellent view of the Brisbane CBD (though I think this view is best at night time).

Lovely gardens and nature @ Southbank Parklands Jun 23, 2010
Located in Southbank, Southbank Parklands is a great place to visit while you are in town. You are still in the city, but surrounded by gardens and nature.

You are next the Brisbane River and the parks. The pink flower arches are just beautiful and all the gardens and parks make this area really charming.

Walking around you will find the Nepalese Pagoda, Japanese Friendship Stone and a Confucius sculpture which was a gift from the Japanese government to QLD, the Picnic Island garden, which is lovely and the perfect place to walk around. Just watch all the people enjoying the fountains and parks.

But one of the most beautiful things is the Streets Beach, which is a man-made lagoon, how awesome! In summer time this might be lovely.

I was here during the day, a sunny and a rainy one and both of them were great. Each one has its own charm. Definitely if you are in Brissy, you shouldn't miss walking around this lovely area.

One of my favourite things to do in Brisbane was visit the Southbank Parklands.

Suituated on the South side of the river and accessible by bridge, ferry or citycat, this huge area consists of a manmade beach, gardens, restaurants, shops, bars, theatres, a Japanese Shrine and the cities cultural centre.

Southbank is such an asset to Brisbane as the weather is always hot and it's great to be able to go for a swim in the city when shopping and doing errands. It's also a great place for a night out as there are a lot of good bars and restaurants in or close to the parklands and the views of the city at night are just magical.

There are also markets in Southbank every Sunday.

First time in Brissy. Yep! I was a tourist :P
Craig's work is located in Southbank. Southbank belongs to Brisbane, but it's not downtown, in order to go there you have to cross the Brisbane River. That might involve a non so short walk... no pro…Southbank Parklands and there is a big Wheel, the famous Brisbane's Wheel. Yes, not many locals have been there…
