The only reasonable way to visit South Georgia is by cruise ship, making it one of the hardest and most expensive places to go to.

You are however rewarded with breathtaking scenery. On shore landings curious penguins and seals will actually come to you. It feels like stepping into the scene of a David Attenborough documentation.

There's also a whiff of history to be had with the option of visiting Shackleton's grave or even following his very footsteps by tracing part of his famous voyage to cross the island to call for help for his marooned men on Elephant Island...
