I did an abbreviated 4D/3N Salkantay trek the usual one being 5D/4N.As soon as my flight arrives in Cusco, Wilber picks me up at the airport and am whisked to the XTreme Tourbulencia offices as Avenida Plateros near Plaza Armas to get the guide Simon, our cook Richard and to get some last supplies/items for the trek.Simon explains to me our route and asks me if I've ever been on a trek. I replied, "No, this would be my first formal trek." We then go to a three-hour drive to Mollepata (3,...

Tuesday morning was devoted to the seabirds of the Galapagos Islands. Of the 140 bird species found on the islands, 89 are seabirds. Two terns (the Sooty and Brown noddy), two boobies (the Blue-footed and Red-footed), two frigate birds (Magnificent and Great), Storm Petrels, Red Billed Tropic Birds and the Waved Albatross all nest on the islands in significant numbers. The Galapagos has the world’s largest colony of Red Footed Boobies and 30% of the world’s Blue Footed Boobies. Oth...

It´s a honour to be in this paradise on earth. Galapagos is a place that deserves all our respect, being there approaches you to the Charles Darwin old times,.. i could imagine him sailing on the Beagle with his amazed face discovering so many interesting things. Besides the impresive different landscapes of lava, mangrove, palo santo or cacti, you will have that undescriptible sensation of being close to many varieties of animals that stay close to you and that have no fear at all!

Ipanema by Night

Definitely my best day in Rio.  With only one day left, I still had a lot of stuff I needed to see.  I started in Ipanema Beach, one block from the hotel.   It's world famous, and so much has already been written about it, there's no point in going on in a blog.  Let's just say it looks exactly like you think it does.  No surprises. What was a nice surprise was Flamengo beach, facing the harbor rather than the ocean.  It's shape is a half moon, reminding me vaguel...

Now I don't want to seem at all arrogant! (that wouldn't be like me at all aye... lol) but I thought I knew a thing or two about international travel!  Turns out, always something new to learn.  I blindly let the travel agent lead me and didn't think to double check connections and the route.... She didn't really do the best job!  I ended up having to stay on the plane at Sao Paulo and coming to Rio De Janeiro to wait.... while several planes have since left from Sa...

Huacachina is a oase in the desert. By taxi it is about 10 minutes from Ica. The one of the billets of Peru shows this place, but in real it is much nicer. In the center is a big pond and around are palmtrees and some hostels. You can walk the sanddunes, ride in desert buggies and go sandboarding!

So, I had the deep desire to travel to Iguazu Falls, but none of my friends in Buenos Aires could join me.  Being the adventurous spirit that I am, I decided it was time to finally take my 1st solo trip.  I bought a plane ticket and booked a hotel in Puerto Iguazu for 3 days.  Within my first few hours in Puerto Iguazu I immediately made friends with 2 other solo travelers!  We spent the next 3 days together and then even some more time with each other when we ...

Santiago and Valparaiso 1-8 Feb 2006
posted by:
Jan 24, 2006 - Sep 21, 2006
First impressions of Chile on arrival were that the Chilaens really need to work on their public image. Santiago is an amazing city in some areas but the route from the domestic airport to central Santiago takes you through the dingiest neighbourhoods in the city. I arrived in Bario (Neighbourhood) Brasil because according to the lonely planet it's the hip part of town. I wandered the streets for a while to find a hostel with a bed available and bumped into a pair of US students wh...
