Lake Victoria and White White Water Rafting Aug 27, 2009
The source of the Nile is located in my birth country, Uganda. It is the point at which the second longest river in the world, the Nile begins it’s journey. The Nile river runs approximately 6400 kiliometers long. With the amount of water it carries along it’s path, it creates high grade rapids that are currently used by White Water Rafters for thrill adventures. The source of the Nile is Lake Victoria, one of the largest fresh water lakes of the world. The location of the source in Uganda is Jinja/ Bujagali Falls area.
Earlier explorers went on various expeditions to try and find the source of the Nile, ofcourse then they were looking for the Biblical Nile river where baby Jesus was left in a basket. Eventually a British Explorer John Speke found what is currently documented as the Source of the Nile. Speke lived during the reign of Queen Victoria after whom Uganda’s number one lake is named; Lake Victoria.
Highly recommended for the adventure traveler and thrill seeker. It is at the source of the Nile that many tourists to Uganda enjoy grade 5 White Water rafting. Many companies now offer tours originating from Uganda’s capital Kampala with return transfers to the airport on your return date.
