souq waqif May 18, 2011
Souq Waqif was an old Souq, so the government decided to knock it down and build a new Souq that looked like an old Souq. And, to my surprise at the time, they did a very good job at it.

First it looks the part. Beautiful stone has been used for the buildings, and it as created the narrow pathways and maze-like interior you would expect of a Souq. Men with white beards and grey turbans wait in the pathways with wheelbarrows ready to carry your purchases.

This shopping destination is renowned for selling traditional garments, spices, handicrafts, and souvenirs. It is also home to dozens of restaurants serving cuisines from all over the world, as well as Shisha lounges. Although this market dates back at least a hundred years, it has been recently restored back to its original glory. It is now considered one of the top tourist destinations within Doha.

Thousands of people from across the region frequent this market to purchase traditional goods such as wool, traditional thobes, jewelry, and perfumes.

Lately Souq Wakif became a hotspot for art galleries and workshops, hosting several art galleries and events. It also hosts local concerts during the holiday seasons.

a maze in the middle east Apr 23, 2011
Since I had to wait for 8 hours for the next lag of my flight back home, I got the visa to walk around in the middle east... alone!

I was surprised that it was quite big!! Big enough for me to spend 5 whole hours in it. The things ain't cheap, but they are really unique! Things that you can only find in the middle east, including stuffs for henna and the eyeliner for middle east women.

It was fun walking there, but stuffs are not as cheap as I thought.

I tried out persian food in a rather luxurious-looking, but reasonably-priced restaurant in the souq. It is a nice try! and definitely worthwhile! :)
the persian dinner! yummy!

This is an amazing place if you want to relax or buy some stuff for shopping or souveiners! You will be enchanted of the ambiance from this place. It's basically the aroma of what Qatar can offer. Glimpse from the past and the present can be viewed while walking.

The restaurants available are a "must see" and "must taste" for all those who love to devour the essence of what middle east foody could offer.

On a weekend, A local gathering can be experienced. A delight of what something this land can create a harmony from within.

A donkey.Yes, a real donkey for those kids to see. I named it "mighty" because it's just amazing how the animal can carry a load of an earthling.

I guess, this will not be a complete list but I know for a fact that it can satisfy your thirst for place, food, things and of course real people to see and saying "Kef Halak"...
