Soundwave Bar & Restaurant Dec 10, 2009
Soundwave is a bar & restaurant (that also has a guest house with 6 bungalows currently being built) run by a very interesting & entertaining Scottish lady, Helen.

It is located right in front of the beach as all bars are but this one as the bonus of being opposite the sea turtle sanctuary and being lucky enough to be able to almost guarantee seeing a sea turtle if you snorkel just in front of her bar.

She has a fully stocked bar and prepares a good menu of food. Her pancakes are not to be missed nor are her fruit milkshakes!

If you stay at Teddy's Campsite you can get a breakfast off Helen for around 15,000 RP. That is very cheap especially seeing as I never once finished the whole thing.

Again, some of my best memories relate to hanging around this bar with either a tea or a large Bintang while chatting away with Helen about everything and nothing.

Jessandnorris says:
Soundwave was comical in it's horribleness. We booked and paid upfront for 7 nights and stayed for 20 minutes.

It's difficult to pinpoint what clinched our decision to make a swift departure however the most notable features of this fine establishment are:
• Soviet prison-esque room decor;
• a total absence of electricity;
• a tepid drizzle of a cold water shower in a bizarre concrete cell reminiscent of a scene from Midnight Express;
• what can safely be assumed to be excrement stains on, in and surrounding the toilet;
• top notch security. Doors can only be locked (and more concerningly unlocked) by the disgruntled gang of youths that loiter suspiciously around the "bar area".
• the bar area. A gloomy hovel patronized only by the gang of suspicious youths discussed above. Having experienced the hygiene standards of the accommodation, ordering food is clearly only for the brave.

Having experienced the above, we approached the manager Helen and said that we didn't think we could handle the above issues for the duration of our holiday and would find alternative accomodation (which notably was lovely and surprisingly less expensive).

The lovely Helen obfuscated, prevaricated and generally rambled incoherently. We later discovered she had provided the booking agency with an entirely fictional account of events (saying we had moved only because we wanted to find something cheaper) and refused to refund even part of our entire 7 day stay.

We wouldn't recommend this place to Bear Grylls.

Don't go.
