Sound of Vienna Reviews
The Music of Mozart and Johann Strauss, Jr. in Vienna Oct 01, 2011
Sound of Vienna is a series of daily concert programs performed by the Salonorchester Alt Wien together with singers and dancers. This is a prime venue to hear the music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Johann Strauss, Jr. Both composers are an inseparable part of Vienna's musical fabric.
We were not able to attend the Staatsoper or the Philharmoniker, but I certainly wanted to hear some music in Vienna, and this concert was delightful. Concerts take place at the Kursalon in the Stadtpark, within sight of the golden Johann Strauss statue. (The Kursalon opened 1867 in and Johann Strauss, Jr., himself played there.)
The concert program changes every day, but there are standards like the Radetzky March, Strauss waltzes and Mozart and Strauss overtures. Instrumental selections are played by the orchestra, with vocalists joining for arias and duets from Mozart's operas and Strauss' operettas. Dancers interpret some of the Strauss waltzes. Our program was good mix of selections ranging from waltzes to Don Giovanni to Wiener Blut.
Definitely recommended for that Viennese experience!
