Souk Sabay Don Khong Reviews
Souk Sabay, Don Khong. Mar 21, 2008
This is the guesthouse right next door to Mr Poon’s guesthouse (which is right in front of the boat drop). I looked at Poon’s and it was a beautiful room but just too expensive since they were recommended in Lonely Planet. Souk Sabay had a room that was nearly as beautiful for $6. The bed was super comfortable, the bathroom and shower was great (and with hot water), the fan worked, the door was secure. Plus the lady who ran it was very nice. I hired a bicycle from her for 10,000 kip for the day and it was fine (thankfully the road is flat so you don’t need more than 1 gear). I would definitely stay here again.
Getting to Don Khong from the mainland/border drop off point – do NOT pay more than 10,000 kip for this! It is a 4 minute journey across the water!
Getting to Don Det – the going rate is 40,000 kip and it is worth it when you compare it to the above journey since it takes about 40 minutes through all the sand flats! Bear in mind it goes up to 50,000 kip after midday, so go early and find people to share a longboat with. You’ll usually find heaps of people making the same journey having breakfast with their luggage in Pon’s, Done Khong's or Phoukhong Guesthouse restaurant beside the boat-drop.
