Soufriere Overview

As soon as you step into Soufriere, you are inside a volcano! Located on the southwest corner of St. Lucia, Soufriere is a small town that lies in a caldera (a dormant collaped portion of the Qualibou volcano that hasn't erupted in over 200 years).

The surrounding area has a variety of working plantations that produce cocoa, bananas, sugar and coffee.

Popular attraction in Soufriere include The Pitons, the drive-in volcano with its Sulfer Springs (a tour is recommended, but bring your water and good climbing shoes), Fond Doux Estate, a rainforest as well as a variety of waterfalls.

If you are staying in Soufriere, the villas and hotels away from town are recommended, the town has had to rebuild with a variety of earthquakes and rare occurences with hurricanes and looks old and a bit like a shanty-town. The roads are narrow and driving a car might be a little tight.
