Soroako Vacation Guide
Soroako or Sorowako is a small city in South Sulawesi. It takes 1 hour flight from Makassar or 12 hours by land. The city seems consist of two part. The first part is the area where local people live. The situation is like other small cities in Indonesia, simple and untidy. The second one is the area where the employees of PT INCO and their families live, modern and well planned. PT INCO or PT International Nickel Company is the company that handle the nickel mining in Soroako.
There are 3 kinds of housing for the employees, i.e. dormitory, caravans, and houses. Dormitory is for guests, contractor employees stay. Caravans are for single employees and houses are for the ones who bring their families.
There are 4 types of house, i.e. A, B, C, and D. A is for the president director. The rest are for the staff depends on their positions in the structure.
Soroako is a quiet city. It is a perfect place to escape from the the noise and business of big cities.

I am an electrical engineer by profession and I had an opportunity to be seconded to PT Inco, Nickel Mine and Refinery as a plant engineer. I spent 3 months only at this exotic remote area but its impressions are still so strong in my mind. Get out from the armchair dreaming suddenly I found myself in the middle of jungle with its overhelming mountain views, tropical plantations, strange smells and sounds.
