Soriwool Guesthouse Seoul Reviews
Good traditional Han-Ok at a very good location Oct 12, 2014
N37°34.675' E126°58.848' We were looking for a room in a traditional Korean Guesthouse (Han-Ok) sleeping on the floor Korean-style with a private/en-suite bathroom (not shared). This was a problem, because most Han-Oks do not have rooms with private bathrooms. Most of the time a single room in the house is converted into a shared bathroom. Soriwool solved this problem by creating small bathrooms inside each room, making the room just enough to fit the width of two futons. With our backpacks at our feet, our room with the name Daegeum was full, but we loved it every minute.
Nowadays Seoul City council is promoting the preservation of Han-Ok houses and supports the renovation and reallocation as guesthouses. In the Buckchon area, we found many Han-Ok to choose from, but careful selection on quality and price on Tripadvisor led us to Soriwool. It has an excellent website with a helpful map how to walk from Anguk subway station to Soriwool in a quiet side street of the Buckchon area. It is on walking distance between two major palaces and few corners from good restaurants.
The owner, not living anymore in the Han-Ok himself, gave us on the spot training in opening and closing the front door. He speaks good English and is in the Han-Ok every morning to assist. Sleeping in the Han-Ok is expensive. We paid KRW 110.000 a night in August 2014, the highest amount per night during our three-week stay in South Korea, but it included simple continental breakfast with toast, jam, milk, serials, coffee and tea. The promised eggs were absent. Our room was clean and cleaned every day with fresh towels. Air conditioner and heater were installed.
Soriwool guesthouse is a bit expensive but enjoyable experience to sleep in, at a very good location. Recommended.
