Sophbeck Sessions

Sophbeck Sessions is Leicesters best kept secret. Its a small club on the outskirts of town, hidden amongst the council buildings and a few classy restaurants. During the day you wouldnt even know it was there, with its blinds down in the windows and the whole front painted black, but when night falls it comes alive, you can hear the music halfway across town.

Entering the club, your surprised at how small the initial bar arear is, but upontaking a stroll round you can see its somewhat of a maze. There are archways leading to the dancefloor, follow the path further and there is a chill out area to the back of the dance floor. Downstairs can only be described as a cave system. Theres another bar, a cloakroom, seating area, dancefloor and dj booth. The exposed brickwork gives it an illegal rave feel, or maybe thats the crowds of people dancing crazily too anything with bass...

Sophbecks music taste is about as eclectec as you can get, playing everything from 60's 70's rock and roll, to the most obscure electro to date, and everything inbetween. Amber Gamblers rule the cave most friday nights playing a selection of Miami/booty bass, baltimore club, crunk, hiphop, electro and dance, whilst upstairs its rock n roll, hiphop, pop, funk, electro and a mish mash of everything!

Id have to say the best thing about this club is the decor. It was painted during an art jam by Xerox Ferox. The walls are covered with sprayed artwork, and can sometimes keep you locked in a stare for a while! And with a few comfy leather chairs and sofas its the perfect place to chill out on a friday or saturday night.

Its generally free to get in before midnight, then £2 or £3 after that. Drinks are average price, and the smoking area is outside on the front. Make sure you get your hand stamped before leaving to have a cigarette or you wont get back in!
