Sombat's Hilo Reviews
Aug 07, 2007
Sombat's is a standout restaurant because they grow all of their own vegetables and everything there is organic. They also sell several of their products at local grocery stores. I used to eat here all the time when I lived in Hilo, in fact, I was addicted! These are some of my favorite dishes:
Spring Rolls: Mixed Vegetables with Bean Thread Noodles Deep Fried and Served with Pineapple Sauce made with Macadamia Nuts.
Fresh basil Rolls: Four Rolls made with Shrimp or Tofu, Bean Sprouts, Mixed Green Salad and Fresh Basil.
Som Tum: Fresh Local Green Papaya (Hawaiian papayas rock!!!)mixed with Fresh Lime Juice and Thai Spices.
Tom Yum: Exceptionally yummy hot and sour soup made with lime juice, lemongrass and miscellaneous spices.
Pad Thai: Fantastic! Extremely flavorful!
All of the curries are great.
The mixed veggies stir-friend with oyster sauce is delicious, and you can request that they add fish or shrimp for a small fee.
This is an excellent restaurant choice for vegetarians, vegans, health-aware people (which reminds me- they have great brown rice!!!) and carnivores.
