The real name for this part of Ethiopia is the Somali Region. Somali Region has a distinctly different scenery than most of Ethiopia, which is diverse, covered by Highlands, deserts and forests. The SOmali Region is found in Southern Ethiopia, and is mostly desert. The temperatures are high in the dry season. THe people are typically pastoralists, as it is hard to harvest even small crops in this dry climate.
It isnt common to see much wildlife in the Somali region, nor is it a particulary tourist friendly environment. There are numerous small cities scattered across the land, with accomodations, but very low quality. It is recommended to stay in the various guest houses provided by the local NGO's such as Save the CHildren, who operate a decent Guest House in Dolo Odo, a small town on the Border of with somalia.
