Average Hotel - in need of face lift Dec 27, 2010
I stayed in this hotel during the summer of 2006. Booked this hotel in advance on the recommendations of the holiday brochure and pictures.....should have done a little research before hand!! The hotel was easily recognisable on the way down to the resort due to the fact it resembled a 15 floor concrete tower block. We arrived mid afternoon and were checked in pretty quickly. However, I was quick to notice the very tired appearance of the furniture in the reception area (Sofas with ripped cushions, curtains not completely attached to the curtain rails) We were given keys on the 5th floor overlooking the pool area. Thank god we were only on the 5th floor as the lifts were broken. After lugging suitcases upto the 5th floor we arrived at our room - on first impressions - not impressed at all, in fact during the phone call home to say that we had arrived safely I think I compared the place to that of "Faulty Towers"(an English sitcom about a very run down hotel), there was an electrical socket hanging off the wall in the bedroom, the only other available socket was were the TV was plugged in - TV did not work. Not very good when two girls are sharing and want to use hairdryers, straightners etc. Wandering out onto the balcony - the balcony door did not lock.......the balcony itself was tiny - two patio chairs in either corner with no leg room what-so-ever, god help you if you were over 6foot!! However the view was acceptable - just. Wardrobe space was limited too - another disappointment. The bathroom was extremely tired looking, cracked tiles, shower head practically hanging off the wall. Maid service was ok but nothing to write home about, towels were not changed on a daily basis. Toiletries not replaced. Hairdryer inop. To be honest we did consider on asking for a room change but due to the length of the queue that we had left on arrival at the desk, together with the fact that we would have to lug our suitcases down 5 flights of stairs and thinking of the prospect of being given a new room higher up we thought we would ride out the storm as we were only staying for a week. The pool area was a nightmare - queues for the sunbeds started at 7.30am, the pool area did not open till 8.30am. I joined this queue on the first morning of our holiday and did not bother for the rest of the week, it was like a stampede across the Serengeti - people grabbing sunbeds 3/4 at a time, I kid you not. Poolside bar service was basic. Restaurant was ok,though it did resemble that of a school canteen. Breakfasts were the tradtional full english, breads, cheeses, hams, cereals. Evening meals consisted of meat/fish dishes, salads, desserts were few and far between. Word of advice would be to get down to the restaurant as quick as possible as on the first night we stayed we went down at about 7.30pm and were left with the choice of chips, chips or.....chips, we ate out that nite. (We were on half board basis too - so not very happy about that either). The hotel is meant to be 200m from the seafront promenade, during the week we tried numerous routes to the beach and the quickest route we found was a good 15mins away, not very good if you have small kids and can not get round the pool. The hotel is a Flintstones themed hotel and this is excellent for the kids, after getting over the tedious repetitive flintstone theme tune that was played at every opportunity we began to see the funny side.........sort of.........and the entertainment was quite funny in a kind of way. The highlight of my holiday was what the poor woman who won the Miss Betty beauty competition received as her prize............ a week free at the hotel.......I would have rather sticked pins in my eyes!!!!! To be honest the whole experience has put me off visiting Tenerife again. The only upside of the holiday was a boat trip out to see dolphins swimming in the wild. If someone would like to advise me of a nicer place to stay on Tenerife then with an open mind I may give the island another chance!!! Of course since my stay here the hotel could have had a major facelift.......would be nice to know if it has!!!!!
