Sokos Hotel Vaakuna Helsinki Reviews
Great Location May 10, 2010
On arriving to the hotel is was very grand, and in a very conveinent location. (above a shopping centre, with mc donalds below and bars/shops)
Once we had checked into the hotel we were given our keys to our rooms. Once inside the lift we had to put our key into it to select a floor - i feel this is a great idea as it stops people without a room coming into the hotel, as it joins bars it is useful to know that only people who have paid can access the rooms.
Our room was of an average size, but the view of the city was amazing, a floor to celing window was a very good choice!
The bed was a double but two singles pushed togther, there was a mini bar and a flat screen t.v in the room along with a chair, wardrobe and dressing table.
The room was very light and airy and had a netted curtain and a material one.
The bathroom was a little on the small size, but seemed to have heated floor tiles - we are unsure if this is the case but they felt warm. There was a walk in shower in the bathroom which was of a good size.
The hotel reception was 24 hours and late at night a bouncer is on the door, to stop random people walking in.
In the morning breakfast is included and on the 6th floor over looking Helsinki city. IT is a buffet restaurant with plenty to choose from.
There is a luggage area where you can leave your bags after check out time which you are given a key for.
We were only there for one night but for location alone i would recommend it.

Great Hotel in a Superb Location May 08, 2010
We came across the Sokos Hotel Vaakuna whilst looking for cheap hotels in Helsinki. This hotel is usually quite expensive but somehow we managed to get a cheap deal on the weekend we went to Finland.
The location is perfect - right next to the train and bus station, two minutes walk from the shops, restaurants and nightlife.
Upon walking into the Lobby we were taken aback by how impressive it looks - quite understandable why this hotel is usually quite pricey.
The room itself complete with minibar and TV was medium sized, with a very impressive view through a huge window across the adjacent square. The bathroom was average but clean and in working order so no complaints. The restaurant is based on the top floor (like quite a few city hotels) and has brilliant views across Helsinki, including a great view of the Tuomiokirkon Cathedral. The breakfast was average which was a bit of a shame really.
I would recommend this hotel if you manage to get a bargain as we did and for its quite frankly perfect location.
