Haeju, North Korea
Sokdamgugok Haeju Reviews
9 Valleys along the Sokdam River May 03, 2010
Sokdamgugok is the name of place along the Sakdom River and means "Pools on Rocks and Nine Valleys". This was another mandatory visit on the country side in North Korea, near the city of Haeju.
The valley we visited is considered the most beautiful one and is called Unbyong Valley. As the weather was grey and spring reallyhadn't begun in North Korea, the place looked not as beautiful as it is known for in the country.
The tourguide who accompinied us and told about the area, said that the valley housed the Sohyon Academy, which dated back from the 16th century.
It was a nice visit, but perhaps with sunnier weather and later in the year (the end of spring and/or summer time), the place would be indeed more beautiful gives more credits to its name.
As all the visits to the various sites were included in the tour, it was unknown to me about the costs. That's why I made them free.
Part of the list What to see and do in North Korea
