Soho Kitchen & Lounge Bergen Reviews
Nice sushi Apr 15, 2011
At first glance this place looks quite dark with its black and purple interior. But once inside it has a nice atmosphere. First you enter the bar. Located in the front of the restaurant by the window it is light and airy. The restaurant is located behind the bar on the ground floor and on a mezzanin upstairs. I decided to sit at the bar and found it very nice. The lit candles on each table created a warm feeling. The restaurant itself is a bit too dark for my taste.
The staff is very nice and helpful. My waiter, Pete, an Englishman, was a sweetheart. Very cheerful, caring and helpful. As I was enjoying my sushi, what seemed to be regulars, arrived. They all seemed to know the staff.
Soho Kitchen & Lounge serves sushi and tapas. They have a good variety of maki, but the selection of nigeri and sashimi is a bit more reduced. Being a cold and rainy day I started with a miso soup, which was very nice. It certainly warmed a poor cold soul. I then ordered the tempura maki, which was excellent and the tuna maki, which was a bit harder than what I´m used to, but still good.
The tapas menu was also tempting. Things like scampi, scallops, leg of duck, chorizo, Moroccan meatballs, chevre and manchengo would meet most peoples taste. The tapas are a bit pricy compared to what you get. You can order single tapa or menus of 3, 5 or 7 pieces (USD 40-70).
At the bar you can also order, soup, fish & chips and Greek marinated red pepper (USD 20-25). The bar serves red, rosé, white and sparkling wine as well as champagne, beer and mixed drinks.

In the restaurant the menus are both in English and Norwegian.
If you can´t leave your laptop at home, Soho Kitchen & Lounge offers free WIFI.
Since the restaurant opens at 5 pm it is more a place for dinner or a late night snack. At night and during the weekends it is very lively around the bar. Soho Kitchen & Lounge can´t compete with Red Sun Restaurant and Bar when it comes to quality of the sushi, but they bit them big time in both atmosphere and service.
