Pampering at it's best Apr 20, 2010
"Sofitel Luxury Hotel" - by putting the word "luxury" there, it might get intimatidating for people like me and my hubby, who are not rich. But surprisingly, the rate of Sofitel Imperial Resort Luxury Hotel in Mauritius, was even less than the rate we paid in other 4 star hotels. And here's the best thing, it was all worth it with Sofitel. They truly showed how a 5-star, first class resort should be.
Being a 5 star resort, of course, we expected a lot in this hotel. We expected good facilities, good room and good service, in short, we had high expectations. When we arrived, our expectations were indeed met and furthermore, exceeded! This resort had fantastic facilities, the hotel's design was perfectly made in harmony with the magnificient view of the mountains (Trois Mamelles) and the Indian ocean. My husband and I were in awe. We were received warmly by the nice staff although it took sometime with the registration because the staff mistook us for somebody else so they had to reprint the registration cards. Then we were taken to our room.
Our room was on the third floor, it had a balcony overlooking the beach. Our room was big, and we love the design of the see-thru shower and bath (plus we love the bathroom amenities, their soap, shampoo, bath gel and lotion smelled sooo nice.) You can actually take a shower and enjoy the bath tub while watching TV ;) So the room was really nice, except that it was not as clean as it should
be, we think it was because it may have been cleaned a few days before. And the complimentary fruits were also not that fresh looking and the refrigerator was not working. However, after housekeeping the following day, the room became spic and span and they have fixed our refrigerator. We also loved the TV, they had some movie channels which showed good movies and usually there's an English version channel and a French version channel. We also love it that every night a staff would drop by and give some dark chocolates together with an itinerary of activities for the next day.
Which leads me to the best part of what this resort offer - a lifestyle. So each day, they have a set of activities for the whole day for the guests to join. Like usually in the morning, there's aquagym in the pool, then a badminton or beach volleyball game, then in the afternoon, they have archery and in the evenings they have the happy hours (50% off on drinks in the bars) and a show in the evening (like an African show, a band or some dancing). They even have something for the kids, they have a mini club that has activities for the children too. This lifestyle was something we really didn't expect that a resort would offer so we were really impressed and we loved it very much. We felt soooo pampered.
And I haven't even mentioned the pool and the beach area which were fabulous! In their beach, they have beach chairs and beds where you can lie down and relax. In the morning, they have staff who goes around the beach area, giving out cold drinks to guests. It was really very nice of them, we really appreciated that. And the swimming pool, it was just very nice how they designed it in the middle of the resort. They also have a nice gym and spa, although we didn't try it.
They also have 5 different restaurants/bar, where each has their own specialty. One restaurant area is where you take your breakfasts with the birds. Yeah, the birds literally eat with you, hehehe. The breakfast buffet was not as extensive as I expected but generally it was ok, although this is something they could have some improvement on. Then there's the 2 bars where you can have some drinks during the happy hour evenings and in the Pink Cafe bar, they usually have a musician every night. In Jacarande restaurant, every Tuesdays and Thursdays, they have lobster night, where you could enjoy a 5-course lobster dinner by the beach (it's great!).
We really loved our stay in this resort. It has made our stay in Mauritius soooo memorable and up to now we still long for those relaxing days we spent here when we reminisce them. We definitely are recommending this to our family and friends and to you who are reading this.
