Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi Reviews
Classic luxury and old world elegance Mar 14, 2016
The Soiftel Metropole Hanoi, built in 1902, is a classically elegant hotel with a wealth of history. It is one of only a handful of Sofitels in the world that has been accorded “Legend” status, and it’s easy to see why.
There are two wings of the hotel. We stayed in the newer, renovated wing – but even within that wing there were large differences among rooms. I would highly recommend getting a larger room on the club level. The price difference was $50 / night – but you get access to a separate concierge, a club lounge with free breakfast and afternoon tea, and a much larger, nicer and more elegant room. The breakfast alone pays for the difference in cost.
On our final night in Hanoi we stayed in a “regular” room, and the difference was striking. While it was still nice, it was quite small, much darker, and didn’t feel as “special” as the one on the club floor. If the prices are similar, upgrading should be a no-brainer.
The service was as high quality as one would expect for a hotel accorded “legendary” status. The staff is courteous, helpful, and all speak English. The concierge service from the club lounge was excellent, and they assisted with car bookings, restaurant reservations, and directions.
I think the only “low” point in the hotel was the dinner at the French restaurant. It was good, but not extraordinary – which is what we were expecting given the rest of our experience at the hotel and the much higher than average price point for a dinner in Hanoi. The service was impeccable and the chef was knowledgeable and friendly – but, in terms of value, it would be hard to recommend eating at the restaurant.
Overall, I would recommend staying at this hotel if you can get a club floor level room in the new wing at a decent price. It is a calm, luxurious oasis in the otherwise chaotic and crowded world of Hanoi. It is an experience to remember.

Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi Dec 03, 2014
A very nice colonial style hotel with stylist interior. The place gives a very homey feeling with nice gardens and cozy restaurants. Away from the total chaos of the city itself.
I used to stay in a higher category room but didn't get a chance to take photos. That was totally awesome and recommended. The room category I'm staying this time, is the lowest category. Not as 'wow' as the others, but, not too bad for its price.
Nothing to complain. Excellent wifi speed. Let the photos do the talking.
Exactly a year after my review above, I stayed here again. This time they decorated the place nicely with Christmas theme. Very beautiful! But service and WiFi was kinda bad. Several times my connection was disconnected. And I didn't even noticed they've turned down the room if not for the replenished toiletries. The mess in the room exactly like how I left it before I went out for dinner.
Dinner in their in-house restaurant was excellent. No one make better spring rolls than the Vietnamese. The black pork was also delicious. Mango was a mixture of sweet and sour while pomelo juice was unfortunately tasteless.
One thing I was surprised was that the concierge refused to give me a pen and could only afford to provide pencils?? I was told to go back to my room to get the pen placed hidden among its organisers. Hmmm...
