Sofitel Hyland Hotel Shanghai

I thoroughly enjoyed my five night stay at the Sofitel Hyland in Shanghai in September of 2008. It is conveniently located on Nanjing Road East which is the very large shopping district in Shanghai, in walking distance to the Shanghai Museum, Peoples Square and the Museum for Planning and Development. The staff is very helpful and accommodating. The room I had was smaller than expected but quite adequate for myself. The buffet breakfast is quite nice with a large assortment of Western and Chinese fare . The baguettes were great. Well, it is a French-owned hotel. I frequented the buffet dinner. I found it a bit pricey and not a lot to choose from. However, the desserts were very good. My only negative would be the hordes of people wanting to offer to sell you goods as soon as you walk out of the hotel being that it is directly on Nanjing Road.
