Anchorage's Best Breakfast Jun 25, 2009
In downtown Anchorage, Alaska, there's a fantastic breakfast restaurant called Snow City Cafe. Located on 4th Avenue behind the Captain Cook Hotel, Snow City offers a creative breakfast menu with anything from granola to a tofu omelet to a menu dish named "Heart Attack on a Plate and Veggie Bypass". Breakfast with coffee is roughly $10 to $15 and is worth every penny.
I had the granola, along with toast, and the bread slices were huge. Each table has a large pot of local wild berry jam to lather on toast. The restaurant itself is friendly from the moment you arrive. The host desk has a hanging sign advertising the "Host with the Most" and families can borrow board games to entertain the kids. The walls are brightly painted (which adds light to the dark Alaskan winters) and local artists' paintings are for sale on the walls. Large snowflakes and Christmas bulbs hang from the ceiling and a snowman logo reminds diners they are in Alaska. I highly recommend Snow City for a hearty, delicious breakfast. Go early or you will be waiting in a long line. This restaurant is popular with both locals and tourists and is consistently voted best breakfast by the Anchorage Press. Lunch is also available. |

The ideal way to start the day in Anchorage! Aug 09, 2009
Voted the best breakfast joint in all of Anchorage – and with good reason! Snow City Café has the most expansive breakfast menu I have ever come across. And what’s even better is that they serve breakfast all day long!!
Located very close to the picturesque “resolution point” that provides a sweeping view of Cook Inlet, Snow City Café is a non-descript looking café that I may not even have entered had I not gone there looking for it! Be warned though, the queue on a weekend morning is something you have to be prepared for! A one hour wait for a table is deemed quite regular. The alternative being picking up something to go. Although slightly pricey, Snow City Café lives up to its reputation. With a fun menu comprising of breakfast combos named “Polar Bear Breakfast” and the sort, the joint exudes a sort of happy feeling that feels so welcome early in the morning! Open from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on weekdays and till 4:00 p.m. on weekends, the café is an ideal way to start the day in Anchorage. With mimosa being a constant feature with the breakfast orders, you can quite imagine that this is just not a regular breakfast place! With servers bustling around…full of energy.. And the ambience set to a nice colorful note, it’s the perfect place to sit and plan the itinerary for the day. The fact that they provide free wi-fi access only adds to the convenience! The menu consists of almost anything you can imagine having for breakfast in a place like Alaska! From toasts and eggs in all possible variations to pancakes served with blueberry syrup.. From champagne to hot chocolate.. you name it, they’ll get it on your table! And in abundance! (I actually almost finished one whole jar of blueberry syrup that was placed in front of me. Such a pleasant change from the regular Maple Syrup!) One breakfast, and I was done for the day! Part of the Alaska - Of Fjords and Glaciers.. and mountains high! travel blog |

had decided to go breakfast at a cafe called Snow City Cafe... voted
the best breakfast joint by the natives of Alaska for the last three
consecutive years. Quite impressed, I wanted to go see what the fuss
was all about! It was across… The hostel and its little charms... |

I had intended to go to the Snow City Cafe, and this time,
get a table no matter how long I had to wait!!! So I headed that way,
and to my surprise, I got a table within 10 minutes! And a most
delightful server as well! So, I let him order… Reindeers??? For real??!! |

I was so full from my earlier meal at the Snow City Cafe, that I
could hardly have anything. But it was nice to see all the yummy
looking dishes make their way to the rest of the tables! This
done, everyone in the tour group departed.. I had to wait a while
because… Reindeers??? For real??!! |
