Snæfellsjökull National Park, Iceland. Snaefellsjokull Reviews
Snæfellsjökull National Park, Iceland. Oct 08, 2010
Snæfellsjökull national park is the smallest of the three national parks in iceland. It is located in the western tip of snæfellsness peninsula about 2-3 hours from the capital reykjavik.
the national park has many stunning attractions: pebble beaches, moonlike and alienlike landscape, waterfalls, caves but the "crowning glory" of the national park is no other less than the snæfellsjökull itself - a volcano glacier at 1446 meters which is one of the national symbol of iceland and also known around the world for being the chasm into the center of earth from jules verne's novel: voyage au centre de la terre (journey into the center of the earth).
it is almost always foggy and cloudy around the glacier volcano and it takes luck to be able to see it and the three unusual peaks (best bet is at sunrise and early morning), the permanent snow line is around 1000 meters. You can go here by hiking, hiring a 4x4 car (the only possible way to drive through the terrain) or going into a group tour - which are not cheap considering that iceland is the most expensive country in the world. But standing on or seeing one of the symbols of literary and geological importance is awe inspiring and it really worth the money for.
