Smelthytta museet Røros Reviews
Very nicely set up museum Jul 30, 2015
This museum is a must when you have the time in Røros. It's located in the Smelthytta which is built in 1975 on top of the old smeltery which burned down at the time.
The museum has exhibitions about the history of the copperworks in Røros. What I liked a lot is all the vissible examples. There is a very big area with models about how they used to work in the mines in different times. But also the smelteries and technical installations are shown in scale models.
In summer there are copper smeltings being showed. Unfortunately I did not see it.
I think this museum is well worth visiting. You get a lot of interesting information and also for children it is worth the visit because they will love the models. They give you so much insight of the history of this charming town's number one industry.
The information is written in Norwegian everywhere, but you can get an audioguide which is included in your ticket. The audioguides are available in Norwegian, English, German and French. I got the one in English. If you want, you can use your own smartphone or tablet as an audioguide as well.
The entrance fee is only 80 NOK, about €8.50. Not bad for all what you get to see. I spent one hour in this museum. I think that is the maximum you will need when you want to see it all and listen to all there is on the audioguide.
