Slottsskogens Youth Hostel Gothenburg Reviews
HI - STF Göteborg-Slottsskogen Hostel Aug 27, 2008
"This hostel is... is one of the best that we have visited thus far and offers more than some budget hotels. If you are not a HI member, no worries - cards (for a one year membership) can be purchased at reception for 175SEK and the discount is taken immediately! Forgot your toothbrush - the kiosk sells toiletries, food, and beverages. Tourist attractions closed ot you just want to relax? Book the sauna for 40 SEK for the first person and only 10SEK for each additional person (one hour duration). Or get some "sun" in the solarium, one half-hour is only 40SEK.
Hostel is a far walk from the central train station, over 2k. The location is nice as far as the neighborhood, which a market within two blocks. However, the hostel's location is far from most tourist attractions.
Each room was to have an alarm clock but there was not one present in our dorm, make sure you bring your own. You can bring your own bedding (pillow case, sheet, and duvet cover) or rent one from the hostel for the cost of 50 SEK for the duration of your stay; if you rent bedding, a towel is included. There is a hair dryer in each room - not bonus! Lockers are available in the room at the rate of 10 SEK/day with a 100 SEK refundable deposit. There were only 3 bathrooms, which proved to be too few for the number of guests being served, so plan accordinly because you may have to wait. There was adequate heating in the rooms. Both the rooms and the bathrooms were cleaned daily - the cleaning list was even lef tin our room one morning so the proof is in the pudding. *Suggestion - make your bed before you leave the hostel or you may find that someone else has taken it. Beds are assigned by number but people do not seem to follow that rule at all.
The hostel was two parts which are not connected. Each part has its own common area and kitchen, both open 24/7. Common areas have TVs, magazines, and comfy furniture. Free movies are played daily at 1700 and 2000. Billard/pool table in the dining area for 10 SEK/game. Look for the books to borrow or buy - 10 SEK for paperback and 15 SEK for hardback. An iron and ironing board is available in the corridor. Internet access is located near the reception and is free of charge. A huge breakfast buffet is available for 55SEK per person/per day, book at reception upon arrival.
Wait! They offer more! Parking is only 55SEK per day, book in advance because they only have a limited number of spaces. For 40SEK, wash a load of clothing, for 40SEK, you can wash, dry, and get detergent. Luggage storage is available. It is free the first day and only 5SEK per day/per item for each day after. The reception is open 0800-1200 and 1400-0600 or until 0700 on the weekends. Place luggage in storage before they go on their break! Check-out is at 1100. Maps and Gothenburg Pass are available at the hostel. They also offer business services like faxing, printing and photocopying.Overall this place ROCKS!
