Sligachan is a small settlement on the Isle of Skye, Scotland. So close to the Cuillin mountains, it provides a fantastic viewpoint for Sgurr nan Gillean, a mountain in the Cuillin range.

Sligachan is situated at the junction of the roads from Portree, Dunvegan and Broadford. The hotel was built in around 1830 at this road junction. Many early climbers chose this as a spot to start ascents of the Cuillin. Today there is also a campsite adjacent to the hotel. Bus service is available from the mainland to various locations in Skye, including Sligachan.

The weather was a little better as I crossed the bridge and onto Skye, which had been the original objective when I had first set off from Wilmslow.  My initial plan had been to try and hook up with a like-minded fellow imbecile and attempt a traverse of the Black Cuillins ridge in a day.  The weather had already put paid to that, it just wasn’t feasible.  The ridge is a serious proposition in any conditions and one I’ve completed twice already, one of those solo, but...

This is the national parking spot for the Cuillins Hills!!!  As you might want to spend more than one day hiking through the hills, you have the choice of where to stay!  That makes me laugh 'cause apart from the bunkhouse, the hotel and the campsite and the mountains, there is nothing there!  Why bother by giving this place a name?! hehe.  Anyway, Sligachan is also the road to the West Coast of Skye.  Not much more to say than what I've already said but make sure to ...

Today we drove through the Cairngorms, a mountain range in Scotland passing Ben Nevis at it's foothills and Glen Nevis.  Found a spot beside a river where we had lunch of bread rolls, cheese and bananas washed down with lime cordial!  We were headed towards the Isle of Skye and for a couple of days we had noticed a slow leak in one of the tyres so found a "National" tyre service to have it fixed.  Andrew and I decied that it would ptobably be about the cost of a case of be...
