Finding a spot to Sleep Dec 01, 2013
I got bumped on the standby lists to get me to several destinations to land me then in Beirut last year, to include all flights full to : Frankfurt, TLV, Milano, Geneva. So...I had insightfully purchased a zonal ticket to Kuwait with United Airlines just in case. BUT, that one leaves out of D.C. It was too late to get to DC at midnight, and the earliest flight there was 600am. So....
Since I was on my way to Lebanon to visit my daughter and husband who work there, and she was expecting a baby girl, at the last moment before leaving home, I stuffed a handmade rug from Kashmir into my already full backpack. SO....I think you know the rest of the story!
At 1am in EWR..the only people are the tenants and security, about the safest spot you can imagine 'camping out'! I found a corner with no doors around, dark, close to a bathroom and electric outlet, laid my (Anna-Lena's to be!) carpet down, pulled out my Walkman, and turned my cell alarm on. Went over to boil me some water for some hot green tea, and settled down for a few hours of sleep.
