Slaton Vacation Guide
Howdy (Texas Hello)
The City of Slaton is located in the Texas Plains in the Southeast part of Lubbock County and is known for its rich Railroad, German and Farming heritage. The community is unique for the South Plains in that it is on the edge of the Caprock (an elevated area of land with a flat top and sides that are usually steep cliffs) and has a very ample supply of water. The community boasts several hometown arts and cultural events that are typical of small west Texas communities yet allows access to the "city lights" with its close proximity to the city of Lubbock.
Slaton sits at latitude 33.437 and longitude -101.643 with the elevation at 3,084 feet and is in the Central time zone (GMT -6). Slaton’s Population had 6,109 people at the 2000 census. Slaton was the center of the largest division in the Santa Fe railroad system in the early 1900; in the late 1960s as the railroads began shutting down in this area the town then shifted its economics into Cotton crops. Today it is a small West Texas friendly town.
