Sky Lounge - Niederrad Frankfurt am Main Reviews
Jul 25, 2006
Woo hoo - my first review...
Of all the places I've been to in Germany I've probably been to the Sky Lounge more than any other. The reason - it's just around the block from my sister's flat!
It's not exactly what you would call 'on the beaten track' so I'm not saying it's somewhere you should track down when in Frankfurt but if you happen to be in the area...
The SkyLounge conveniently located on a street corner opposite a tram stop and in fact the bus from the Airport passes this way on the way into the city centre. It's also on the way out to the new WaldStadion, home of Eintracht Frankfurt so if you're off to watch some football it's worth popping in on the way home.
It's a bit more modern and stylish than some of the other bars in the area and specialises in a considerable menu of cocktails which are definitely affordable and nicely potent.
Built in a sort of L-shaped it's not huge but then again as it's out of the city centre it's never too busy. In the summer you can sit outside on the pavement under the shade of the ubiquitous sunshades and sip gin and tonics as you watch the trams go past. For the winter months it's intimate and relaxed atmosphere is warm and inviting.
I've actually not eaten there that often - we usually stop in on the way out and the way home of an evening - but they do a good selection of bar meals and tapas type stuff. We had a nice bowl of Nachos last time we went.
This summer they were advertising Tuesdays as 'Ladies night' with 2 for 1 cocktails which prompted my sister to decide that Tuesday night was the new Friday night. This idea lasted until Wednesday morning when she got up to go to work...
